Have you seen @stevegrandmusic's latest video, "We Are The Night," yet? Well, you did if you attended this morning's Sexy Spin! That's right, I'm continuing to open Sexy Spin each week with a sexy video or two. Just a something a little different to get everyone into their Ride a little easier that early in the morning! And the video is certainly sexy! But it is more than that. Steve, a very sexy man to begin with!, chose to highlight the message of his song in this video. A message of equality. Of inclusion. Of love. And it's amazingly directed by my friend, @MrJohnLavin. And starring another friend and @crunchgym member, Dexter Mayfield @DexStar84! And the video is set to the remix by recent Grammy-winning DJ, @daveaude! You may know DJ Dave Aude from his recent bookings as the dj for the annual fundraiser, Fred and Jason's Halloweenie! So check it out on iTunes now! And come Ride with me in Sexy Spin! Every Thursday morning at Crunch Fitness on Sunset. Same intense Ride. Just a little sillier, sweatier, sexier...and shirtless!!! And once again, now that the big screen TV's are working again after having malfunctioned for the past 4 weeks and after introducing the first video to start off Sexy Spin for the first time the week before that, the video intro to Sexy Spin is back! Again this week, I chose to use a mashup of last year's biggest hits to start things off. This morning, I chose DJ Earworm's "United State of Pop: 50 Shades of Pop", a mashup of the 50 biggest hits of 2015. DJ Earworm kind of originated this whole yearend mashup of the year's biggest hits several years ago. Now, there are many, many dj's out there doing their own versions. I love it when it is done well. And DJ Earworm is not only one of the first but definitely one of the best! Then, I played two videos to really "hammer home" the Sexy Spin theme, Kylie Minogue's "Sexercize" and Eric Prydz' "Call On Me". The video for "Call On Me" is one of the silliest videos I know. It parodies group fitness (specifically a step class), the 80's, and the game that often accompanied the attraction and sexiness of a step class's participants. Nothing that much different from what happens before, during and after a Sexy Spin class I'm sure! In fact, I hope you all were able to view the video I posted on the Ride with Tommy!'s Facebook page. It is not a parody but a real life wedding proposal and flash mob that takes place in a spin class! Beautiful! So full of love! If you haven't checked it out, please do so! To bring all of this together, I think all that I have written so far certainly highlights all that I hope to provide in each Sexy Spin class. An intense Ride. One that makes you sweat! One that makes you feel sexier. One that can sometimes be somewhat silly. And fun! And one that definitely plays a variety of music that motivates and pushes and challenges everyone to work harder and make a difference! Make a change! A positive difference. A positive change. Creating positive energy that feeds you during and long after the Ride. Allowing that positive energy to make the rest of your day more happy and productive. Sharing that positive energy with others you see and meet! I try to provide a lot in a Ride with Tommy! I hope that everyone can accomplish a lot in one of my classes. If not, it certainly wouldn't be for a lack of trying! Or a lack of opportunity! It all can happen right here. In a Ride with Tommy! In Sexy Spin. I truly hope to see you in a class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy!

I have to say, that this week, everything is performing up to and maybe even beyond our expectations! So now it is up to us, the instructors and the members, to set our expectations high! And exceed those expectations! And it is only by that, setting and exceeding expectations, that you will become a stronger rider, a rider that commits to the intensity of the ride, creates challenges, overcomes those challenges, sees results and reaches goals! Yes, all of that happens in our little bitty spin class. Do you want to put yourself into a place where all of this can happen? I hope so! So, I hope to see you soon in the next Ride with Tommy! Happy birthday Jason! Ride with Tommy! regular, Jason, has celebrated his birthday with us here for about the past 10 years or so. Jason, thanks for your continued support, for your positive energy in class (in the front row!), and for your song requests each year to celebrate your birthday with a "Ride with Tommy! Birthday Spin"! Something he did a little different this year was a result of the recent passings of several of music legends that certainly had a great impact not only in the entire world, but even in the music we play here in our little bitty spin class. So not only were we celebrating Jason's birthday, but we also celebrated the lives and contributions of David Bowie, Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vanity of Vanity 6, and even Donna Summer and Whitney Houston whom we lost not so recently but still all too soon! Thanks to everyone who participated in class this morning. Thanks for all the positive energy that you contributed and created! I hope you all realized the results for which you work and reached the goals for which you strive! Hope to see you in class again soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

@crunchgym - Sunset, we are kicking off the Valentine's Day weekend this morning with a special track list highlighting heartbreakers and heartthrobs. This was a fun track list to put together! Now, some of the artists appearing in this morning's track list may fall under one category for one person and in the other category for another person. However, I don't think there will be much argument that they are definitely one or the other! I hope this Valentine's Day weekend will be full of love for everyone! Work out hard! Love yourself! Love everyone! Remember that love is love and everyone is deserving of love. No matter who one loves. Love you all! I'd love to see you in class again soon! Until then, in good health, tommy!

Though we weren't able to play videos, we still played this week's #totalrequestride songs. I've started marking the 3 #totalrequestride songs this week by following the track listing above with (#totalrequestride!). I hope this helps. So remember to tweet your requests to @crunchgym followed by the hashtag #totalrequestride (and also #ridewithtommy) so that we can play your favorite songs or videos in class! In addition to the 3 #totalrequestride songs, I also scattered songs by the standout performers from this past weekend's Super Bowl 50! So yes, there is Coldplay, Lady Gaga and of course, Beyonce. I didn't include Bruno Mars this week, but he certainly contributed to what I thought was an amazing halftime performance! So, I apologize for my posts being rather "spotty" and infrequent the last couple of weeks. As those of you in class know, we have been having some technical difficulty with both the sound and the big screen televisions which we use for 3 of my classes, the Threshold Ride, the Peak Performance Ride, and the #totalrequestride. And the week before the tv's went on the blink, I thought of introducing a video aspect to Sexy Spin as well. The good news is that we have a new sound system with bluetooth capacity and new speakers throughout the spin room! Yay! The downside, we have been working out the volume issues and the tv's have gone out. I have been juggling my cd's (I know...yes, I still use cd's! You may giggle or outright laugh now.), the new bluetooth option, and the direct cable plug-in to the phone option using songs downloaded and saved directly on my phone. So, often, my "preplanned" track lists have been unused and I've been making the track lists up in class while trying to get the best sound using these three play options. On top of all that, I pulled something in my lower back last week which has driven me straight from teaching class to my couch or bed while recuperating from my incapacity. Ugh! So, enough excuses. I hope to be able to bring a "smoother" experience back to classes very soon. Hopefully in the next few days! But by smooth, I don't mean an easy class that doesn't require you to push yourself out of your comfort zone or to the point where you feel uncomfortable. These are vital parts of class that are necessary to move you closer to reaching your goals! You must push yourself out of your comfort zone if you want to get the results that are possible by committing to a spin class! If you are comfortable while riding in class, then you are not working. And to me, that is just not an option in class! So, come to class ready to work! Feel uncomfortable! It should never feel to easy! If so, you are missing out on the workout you could be having! You are missing out on the results you could be getting! Whether I'm playing from my antique cd's, mp3's on my phone or even by using the new bluetooth option on the new stereo, be ready to be challenged! Whether you can see videos, colors, numbers, zone or percentages on the tv screens, be ready to feel in your body the results of the work to which you are committed! Get ready to make a change. A positive change. Get ready to see and feel results. Get ready to sweat! I look forward to sharing this experience with you soon! Until then, in good health! tommy

How's that for something different?!?! A video to start of Sexy Spin! Those of you that have been riding with me for a while know that I always like to start the year off by playing a mashup of the biggest hits of the previous years. This started a few years ago when DJ Earworm was kind of the trailblazer in this area. DJ Robin Skouteris soon followed with an annual mashup as well. Now there are many djs mashing up the hits of the previous year in many different ways! DJ Robin Skouteris is one of my favorite mashup artists, so I'm so excited to have played his greatest hits of 2015 mashup this morning, "PopLove 4: The Ultimate Mashup of the Hits of 2015". Now, we do this every week in the #totalrequestride on Wednesdays at 9:30am. Riders tweet their favorite songs or videos to @crunchgym followed by the hashtag #totalrequestride. The top 3 songs of each week are compiled by Crunch headquarters in New York and then distributed to the instructors that teach this class all across the country! Talk about being a part of something bigger! So I thought that it would be fun and a great way to bring a little added energy to the 7:00am class. Something a little more fun than usual even! Something that can help you wake up out of your morning fogginess a little faster so that you can get to your workout faster and even faster to your results! That sounds good, doesn't it? Well, I think it went really well this morning, so I may be bringing something of this nature back to class soon. Did you enjoy it? Let me know! Comment below or message me. I look forward to hearing your input! Tony, sorry I didn't play your requested remix of "Pure Imagination", but I did play the original video as a cool down! Sorry you missed it, but thanks for the request. I'll play it soon! Gregory, I know how you love Beyonce' remixes and especially the "Green Light" remix if I remember correctly. Sorry you had to leave early and missed it, too! Dave R., thanks again for your support and contribution to this morning's Sexy Spin! You are awesome! See you all in the next Ride with Tommy! Until then, in good health, tommy

Happy New Year! It is the first Tuesday of 2016. It is the first Peak Performance Ride of 2016. It is my first class back in 2016. A lot of firsts! And an amazing way to get back into the routine or to start a new routine! So many people complain of all the people that join and crowd the gym for the first few weeks or months of a new year. New Year Resolutionists I have heard them called. Getting on a machine is more difficult. Finding parking is more difficult. Doing a superset is near impossible. Well, I say that this is a great thing! Not only are more people trying to do something positive in their lives, trying to improve their lives, and even trying to live healthier, happier and longer lives, but more people in the gym brings a new energy into the gym. That's right. A new and more exciting energy! An energy that is created by people doing something positive. And as I always say in my classes, we can "feed" off of each others' energy! That's is why I stress creating a POSITIVE energy in class. Sure, there is so much negative energy out there. You can let the added wait for a specific machine get you mad or frustrated. But you know what? You don't have to. CHOOSE to focus on the positive! Think about how that person that may be on the exact machine that you want may just be following a doctor's orders. That person may have a personal issue that has prevented them from working out in a gym setting and preventing them from working out to improve their life. Well, the beginning of the year may have just brought them to the gym to work at what you may already have. A healthy body. A healthy mind. A positive attitude. A positive outlook. Instead of being frustrated, celebrate them! Celebrate the positive energy! Celebrate the new year! Celebrate your own new beginnings! Change is only made with a commitment. Whatever gets a person to that place where that commitment can be made and a positive change can be made, that should be celebrated! I hope to see you and to celebrate with you in class this week! And the next! And the next! And the many weeks after that! Let's do this! Let's do this now! In good health, tommy

So I've never done one of these "Battle of..." classes before. When Crunch asked if I wanted to do one, I jumped at the chance. I thought it would be fun! And, especially after yesterday's post, we all know how much I try to make my classes fun! So then I began to choose the divas. Well, as I went through the usual suspects, I kept saying to myself, "Oh, I also need to include this one!" So I ended up using all of them! 12 divas! 14 songs. One duet. And I repeated 3 divas in the cool down. And I held one to the cool down only. It was a lot of fun putting the track list together, but a lot harder than I thought it would be. So many choices! And most of the songs tended up being of the "flashback" variety. I mean, a diva has be established! And in addition to choosing the song for being best for a specific challenge, I also wanted to include one of each diva's biggest hits. This makes the challenge more fun and also, I think, easier to really commit to the challenge when the song is powerful and one that the rider can really get into! So, this morning was my first attempt at a "Battle of..." class. It may or may not be my last. But I had fun doing it! I hope everyone had fun riding to it! Thanks to everyone for being there, being a part and working so hard! See you next time. And next Thursday, December 17th at 7:00am will be the annual Extra Special "Give The Shirt Off Your Back" Sexy Spin. Sexy Santa will be there again. And we'll also collect clothing (not JUST the shirt off your back!) for the LA Gay & Lesbian Center's Homeless Youth Program. A great tradition! A great class! A great cause! See you then! Until then, in good health, tommy

So much fun! #totalrequestride @crunchgym @toddyrockstar @SteveGrandMusic Videos. Mixes. Mashups. Energy. Work. Sweat. Fun! This morning's class was so much fun. Thanks to everyone for being there and taking part in the work and the fun. Yes, as an instructor, it is one of my main goals to make class as challenging and intense as possible while also making it as fun as possible. That's right. I said FUN! You won't hear long house/techno/pot-and-pan-bangin' songs with no words in my class. I strive to play music that is high energy and fun. That most everybody knows. You may not know every song I play in class, but odds are, I will play one that you love before it is all over. A variety of today's most popular music. Sometimes mashups. Sometimes remixes. Sometimes music by Crunch members and friends (I love and proud to spotlight Todrick's "Low" and Steve Grand's "We Are The Night" in this morning's class!) All the time used for a purpose. Each song chosen for it's beat as that will be the pace needed along with the correct level of resistance to create the challenge or the obstacle. And it is all about creating challenges and obstacles in class that we overcome. Overcoming those challenges will make you stronger. It will allow you to realize results. It will help you to reach your goals. You can make a difference. A positive difference. A positive change. And we can certainly use something positive in our lives. So treat yourself to a @ridewithtommy class. Do something good for you. And then use that positive energy to help create change in the world around you. I'm currently trying to do something positive and kind everyday in the month of December. A smile to a stranger. A hug to a friend. A text, email or phone call to a family member. Buying the purchase of the person behind you in line at the coffee shop or grocery store. Writing a letter to a soldier. Visiting a nursing home or hospital. As simple and small or as big and extravagant as you want to make it. Just do it. So join me, won't you? Do something positive. For others. For yourself. It is fun! Have fun while doing it! Have fun while working out! You can do so much for so many. You have that power. That opportunity. That privilege. That responsibility. And you can have fun in tomorrow morning's #sexyspin as it will be one of Crunch's themed classes this week. A Sexy Spin Battle of Divas. Message me your favorite big diva song and maybe I'll use it in class! Thanks for listening. Thanks for reading. Thanks for being a part of the Ride with Tommy! Hope to see you in class tomorrow morning or any morning, Monday through Friday. Until then, in good health! tommy

Workout. Holidays. These two terms do not have to be mutually exclusive! Yes, it may take more of an effort to fit your workouts into your routine during this extremely busy and hectic time of year. However, if you have been committed to your workouts throughout the past year or even the past few months, you have created habits that will help you stay committed to your workout routine and committed to reaching your goals! As I have mentioned the last couple of days, I am actively participating in doing a Random Act Of Kindness for the month of December. Treating yourself to a good workout or an extra workout is an act of kindness to yourself. Being kind to yourself is important. Being kind to yourself can make it easier to be kind to others. So by all means, make that commitment to be kind to yourself. To stay committed to your workouts. To making a change in your body. In your mind. In your outlook. In how you percieve your health and well-being. And then, by all means, share the positive energy that you have created by staying committed to your workouts with others that are not as committed as you! Yes, you create physical results by working out, but you also create a positive energy. If you have been in any of my classes, you have heard me talk about this positive energy. This positive energy can help you get a better workout. It can help the people around you in class get a better workout. And you can't help but carry this positive energy around with you the rest of the day after your workout. Not everyone is as lucky as those of us that workout routinely. Whether it be due to physical limitation or schedule limitations or something completely different, we should never take for granted that fact that we have the freedom to choose to workout. It is an opportunity and a blessing that we can commit an hour or two to doing something physical which would improve our mental and physical health and well-being. And especially at this time of year as there is an emphasis on giving and goodwill. It starts with you. Be kind to yourself. Take care of yourself. And then do what you can - as much as you can - to make life better for others. It is the least we can do. And as an added benefit, this will make you feel better, too! Its a win-win! So Ride with Tommy! Stay committed to your workouts. Be positive. Share the positive energy that you work so hard to create with others! Help make their day better. Help make their season merrier and brighter! Check out the track lists for yesterday's #totalrequestride and for this morning's Sexy Spin @crunchgym on Sunet. Let music help you make a difference. A positive difference. I am so grateful for all of you that Ride with me. I don't take you for granted. You make my life better. I am happier and healther because I spin. I hope to continue to share this positive energy with you. I hope to help make a difference. We can do it. So let's just do it! See you in class! In good health, tommy

Unfortunately, these are the times in which we live. A suspicious package was reported in the parking garage of the complex at 8000 Sunset Boulevard. Therefore, not only Crunch, but all businesses in the complex were evacuated for several hours until the bomb threat could be resolved. Fortunately, it was resolved and found NOT to be a bomb. Thank goodness. But in the climate in which we now live, it is much better to be safe than sorry. I am sorry for everyone that was inconvenienced by this occurrance. I am disappointed because not only was my 9:30am #totalrequestride cancelled, but I was also subbing for Dani at 12:00noon and that class was cancelled, too! Well, the best thing is that everyone is safe and that there were no disasters or injuries or worse. I know many people were caught without their cars and clothes and ways to get to work for several hours. Thankfully, all is behind us and we are back on regular schedules and can get back to focusing on making positive changes in our bodies, improving our health, and making it possible to live longer, happier and healthier lives!

Having some fun with videos and fitness! @crunchgym we always strive to provide a place where fitness meets entertainment. I, personally, strive to provide a class that is intense AND fun. And also safe. I want you to come into my class and work as hard as you can to get the results that you want while having some fun and doing it safely! That's all! I emphasize safety and proper form so that everything you do while on the bike actually moves you closer to realizing your goals. To obtaining results. When you are in control, which I strongly encourage everyone in my class to be by focusing on perfect form, every little thing you do can make a big difference. Every little thing will in some way move you closer to realizing your goals...whatever they may be. If you are not using proper form, you could be doing something that could lead to injury. And you are more than likely doing something that isn't really getting the results you want. So I strongly emphasize and encourage proper form. It's one of the most important things to focus on while in class! So, an intense workout. A form-focused workout. And a fun workout. What are you waiting for?!?! Hope to see you in class soon! Until then, in good health! tommy

So, we here @crunchgym, are celebrating this Halloween week by offering several of Crunch's "Haunted Sweat Fest" classes. I did it with yesterday's #totalrequestride. I did it again this morning with a Sexy Halloween Spin. But yet, if you didn't already notice, I chose this year to forego the usual halloween suspects (well, except for "Thriller" of course!). Yes, I have played Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party", themes from different Halloween horror movies, even Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy". They are a lot of fun, but this year, I chose to use primarily mainstream and even recent pop songs that in some way or other, could be perceived as having a Halloween theme. Fifth Harmony's "I'm In Love With A Monster." Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood". T.I.'s "Dead And Gone". Ne-Yo's "Beautiful Monster". Lorde's truly eery cover of Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" soundtrack. "If Only", Dove Cameron's beautiful ballad from Disney's "Descendants" which tells the story of the offspring of Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella de Vil, and the Evil Queen! And finally, "For Good", the brilliant song from the "Wicked" Original Broadway Cast Recording. I had so much fun putting this track list together. I hope everyone had as much fun riding to it while working hard, working safely and efficiently and getting results! Just as we do in every Ride with Tommy! class! So come join in on the fun! Until then, in good health, tommy

Working hard. Having fun. Getting results. Summarizing the Ride with Tommy! classes in just 6 words. I hope that everyone that takes one of my classes is willing to commit to working hard but at the same time, has a little fun while getting the results that you want! Yes, all of that can happen by including Ride with Tommy! classes into your workout routine. I'll be honest with you. You are not going to come into one of my classes and run with very little resistance the entire time. That's not how we do things in my classes. We mix it up. We use resistance. We do intervals. We move while on the bike and while already having committed to the various paces and levels of resistance. And we do all of this while focusing on having as close to perfect form as possible. That way, everything we do, every move we make, every pedal stroke, works toward reaching your goals and getting the results you want. And we do it with the confidence that we are doing it safely without the risk of injury. So with all of this available to you...a FUN workout, a SAFE workout, a HARD workout...why wouldn't you be taking advantage of this amazing workout? Well, okay, not everyone is crazy about the hard workout part. But, as is always the case, anything worth having is also worth working hard for. It is the same for the results that you want from your workouts. So let's do this! Come Ride with Tommy! Be ready to work hard. Get the results that you want. Have fun! I'll see you in class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

It would be so easy to stay in bed, sleep in, cuddled up beneath the covers, curtains covering the windows blocking out the bright, shining sun outside. OR...you could spring out of bed, race to the gym, and Ride with Tommy! Thanks to everyone that did just that. We set our thresholds. We worked to get back up to that threshold level that we worked so hard to set. We challenged ourselves at the different levels below and at our thresholds. We used percentages, color zones, watts, power, rpms, class rankings and distance to push ourselves to new levels. We worked hard. We could see it on the screens. We could feel it in our bodies. We knew it in our minds. We came. We saw. We felt. The workout was awesome. The results felt even better. We knew we had accomplished something. We were proud of our accomplishments. Now we are challenged to try even harder next time. This is amazing! Thanks again to everyone that was a part of this incredible experience this morning. See you Monday morning at 9:30am for the next Threshold Ride @crunchgym on Sunset and @ridewithtommy. Until then, in good health, tommy

Happy Back To The Future Day! Today, October 21, 2015, is the day that Marty McFly travels to in the future in the movie, "Back To The Future II". "Back To The Future" was (and is!) one of my favorite movies! So I thought it only appropriate that I played a video from the movie's soundtrack in today's #totalrequestride. I chose "The Power Of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News. What a great song! What a great movie! What great memories! And what a great class this morning! Thanks to everyone that was there and worked so hard! Thanks for challenging yourself and trying to reach new frontiers past your current (real or perceived) boundaries. Yes, we worked today to improve our future! We worked to make our future happier, healthier and longer! There's no time to work on improving your lives and your future than the present. So as I often say, take advantage of today. Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today? And how great is it that what you do today can improve your mental and physical health and well-being tomorrow and everyday thereafter! So let's do this. Let's commit to indoor cycling as a method of improving the way you feel and the way you look at life. Commit to The @ridewithtommy! I hope to see you in class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

It's been a week since I've posted any commentary about any of the Rides with Tommy! Life gets crazy sometimes, doesn't it? I can't believe it is already the middle of October! Here in Los Angeles, we have had probably TWO (2) days where the temperature dipped below the 90s! So for those 2 days, it sure was nice to feel like the fall season that we are in! And Halloween is only 2 weeks away! That means the grocery store aisles are filling up with candy! Yes, there will be a plentitude of sugary sweets within our very reach in the next few weeks. And then shortly after that, Thanksgiving will arrive with its bounteous supplies of food and especially desserts! And then Christmas! And Hannukah! The days will be getting shorter. The time we have in the day to get everything done will seem to be getting shorter, too. So now is the time to carve out of your busy schedule that time that you so need to take for yourself. For your body. For your health. For your peace of mind. For your overall mental and physical health and well-being. It is vitally important! Don't sacrifice what you need to be the best you possible! And the @ridewithtommy @crunchgym on Sunset is here to help you with all of that. Just show up. We'll do the rest. It's that simple! Commit to it. Just do it. Get through it. Make the most of it. Make a difference. Make a change. Make a positive change. See the results. Ride with Tommy! I hope to see you there soon! Until then, in good health! tommy

12. How Deep Is Your Love - Calvin Harris featuring The Disciples

One of my new favorite epic videos is the mashup of 100 movie dance scenes set to the song, "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars! So much fun to watch! So much energy! Someone after class said that watching the dance scenes reminded them of how great of an exercise dance is. Yes it is when you actually do it. However, just watching it can also provide you with an uplift in energy or an increase in a positive, good mood. That is what I'm going for in the @ridewithtommy's #totalrequestride @crunchgym - Sunset. Increased, positive energy. A better mood. Even more desire for change. Even more willingness to make a positive difference. Changing your body. Changing your mental outlook. Improving your mental and physical health and well-being. Improving your quality of life. Extending the length of that quality life. Everyone knows that exercise is good for you. But does everyone realize that you can make such a tremendous difference with just one spin class?!?! You can! Just do it! Commit to it. Push yourself through it. Don't take it lightly. Don't take your ability for granted. Work to maintain and even improve your current level of fitness. Ride faster. Ride harder. Ride longer. Live better. Live longer. Live happier. Spread that happiness and positive energy with the people around you. Not everyone makes the commitment to working out that you do. Not everyone understands all the great things that happen when you workout. Not everyone benefits from all the amazing things that are created in a spin class. So pay it forward. Carry the positive energy around with you all day. Share it with the people with which you work and live. Share it with people you meet. Share this class with a friend! We have guest passes at the front desk and online at www.crunch.com! Or share it with your enemies! Make them go through the hard work, challenges, sweat and ultimately accomplishments that you do! Make your life better. Make the world better! Ride with Tommy! I hope to see you in class soon! Until then, in good health! tommy

In this morning's Sexy Spin, we celebrate the birthday of the Ride with Tommy! regular, David! Happy happy birthday, David! This is his 7th Birthday Spin! That is awesome and amazing! Thank you so much, David, for choosing to celebrate your birthday in such a fun and healthy way with us here at the Ride with Tommy! @crunchgym on Sunset! You are such a great guy and one of the only people I know that loves to give gifts away on his birthday! Each year, David brings a collection of incredible music related items that we give away by drawing bike numbers at the end of class! I mean boxed sets of Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones as well as hats and t-shirts. So much fun! And that is after we have had an intense workout to a track list of his requests! And he never disappoints to provide a fun, eclectic variety of styles of high-energy, fun music. So thanks again, David, and everyone in class this morning, for being a part of a celebration of David's birthday and of the ability of all of us to ride, improve our lives by riding, and riding to make a positive change in both our mental and physical health and well-being! Join us in class soon! Celebrate your birthday with us! Be a part of an amazing experience! Until then, in good health, tommy

A dance video from "Jerry Springer: The Opera"?!?! Is that even a thing? Yes it is! #jerryspringertheopera It was a big hit in London. Not so much here in the States. But from it comes this amazing song. One of my favorite spin songs. And a favorite of many of my Ride with Tommy! regulars! In the musical, it is about a woman pursuing her life's dream of becoming a exotic dancer. However, it quickly became an unofficial anthem for the gay community having dealt with the AIDS epidemic. "I'm tired of laughing and I'm tired of crying, I'm tired of failing and I'm tired of all this trying, I wanna do some living, Cause I've done enough dying, I just wanna dance, I just wanna f***ing dance!" The song itself starts slow and builds to a wild and fast pace. The video compiles snippets of dancing throughout a history of movies and television. It is so much fun! I love the video. I love the message. I love the song! And what a way to start this week's #totalrequestride! Then we followed this epic video with a new song by MAX, whose songs I have been playing for a while now. He is an actor and singer from the Nickolodeon world, modeled with Madonna on a Dolce & Gabbana campaign, and has become a Youtube star along with his cousin Kirk Schneider. I've played several of their covers as cool downs. But this song and video are a lot of fun and provide a great uptempo beat which is great to ride to! And then you can never go wrong for high energy and fun with a Black Eyed Peas video, in this case, "Pump It". Then after we finished playing the videos in the beginning of class, I tried to keep the fun and energy going with the remainder of the track list. And the riders in class certainly brought the energy, focus and determination to make an amazing difference today! If you haven't participated in a #totalrequestride yet, come join us @crunchgym on Sunset! An intense, form-focused and fun workout! Hope to see you in class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

Out with the old! In with the new! Oldies but goodies! Everything old is new again. So many things can be classified as old or new. But so much of today's fresh and new music is built upon or shaped and formed by the music of the past. Whether old music is sampled in new songs, remixed or covered by today's new artists, there is no denying that the music of today can be strongly influenced by the music and artists of the past. This can also be applied to workouts. It seems that there is always a new and fresh take on an old workout. Whether it be spinning, weight training or body sculpting classes, gyms, trainers and instructors are always working to have the newest and shiniest trends offered in their classes or instructions. However, if you boil it down, there is often the very same basic principles at play. The tried and true basics. The time-tested methods. And I won't even go into the applications of this thought process to people other than to say that the young, fresh-faced, "wet behind the ears" generation can certainly benefit from the experience and knowledge of the people that came before them. So, I guess what I want someone to be able to take away from this "gibberish" that I'm spewing forth, is that once again, there is so much to celebrate in finding the positive and beneficial aspects present in life. The young, the new, the creative, the bold, the shocking, the older, the vintage, the antique: all of these are valuable, helpful, beneficial, great, awesome, fun and exciting! So have a blast in life celebrating all of the old that is new again. There is always a reason to celebrate. Whether that reason is brand new or recycled; just out of the box or closer to having a foot in the grave; bright and shiny or needing a gentle rub to discover the possibilities that lie underneath; just remember to celebrate! Your life will be much better for it. Just don't sit down and let it pass you by! Get up, get out and workout! Ride with Tommy! I hope to see you in class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

No (technical) glitches! Yes! This morning's #totalrequestride @crunchgym on Sunset was a blast! And on top of that, there were no technical glitches (neither caused by the user (me!) or those that are out of user control!) So a big "yay!" And yes, I am celebrating the fact that there were no technical glitches. Yes, glitches should be so rare that the lack of them should not be a reason to celebrate, but as most of you know by now, there is always something to celebrate! And isn't it much more fun to find the reasons to celebrate and then increase the happiness and positivity by sharing those reasons rather than focus on what can and does go wrong and bringing yourself and others down? It's very much like your workout. Instead of focusing on how difficult it can be or how much pain you go through when actually, physically going through your exercises, why not focus on the positive benefits of your workout? The results that you are going to or already have obtained? In my classes, you will often hear me talk of the positive aspects of class. And it is so important to feel the benefits of the positive energy that is created when you focus on the workout/the Ride along with everyone else in class instead of doing your own thing which very often can be very different from what the rest of the class is doing! That "doing your own thing" can be a huge distraction and can then be a very negative action. So, when everyone in class commits to the Ride/the workout, wouldn't you rather be a part of the positive energy and the positive change? Wouldn't you rather benefit from the positive energy and obtaining more results as a member of the class while making that commitment? I know I would. And I hope that the Ride with Tommy! riders would too! 'Cuz there is already so much in life that is out of our control and very often negative. Take every chance you get to focus on the positive. Celebrate the positive! See the glass as half full, not half empty! Share the positive with the people around you or the people that you meet everyday! Multiply that positive energy! It can spread exponentially! Wouldn't you rather be a part of something like that? You can! It's up to you! Just do it!

This morning's class was kinda special. There were a fewer number of people there than usual. So I decided to take a little different approach to the Threshold Ride today. We did the warm up. We worked hard to set our thresholds for the usual 3-minute period. But then, I went to each person in class, face to face, and asked them what was one thing they would like to specifically work on in class this morning. I gave everyone the option to opt-out if they wanted, but everyone participated! And it was an amazing experience! I LOVED the input! I had people say they wanted to work on their endurance. I had some say they wanted to work on their power. Some said they wanted to work on their bodies. I had one woman say that wanted to focus on her "me" time. I followed that up by asking her if she had kids. Yes, she did. A toddler and an infant less than a year old. Oh I get it! I totally get it! I even had someone say that they wanted to work on showing the guy that broke up with them yesterday what they were missing! Yes! It is that focus on yourself that is so vitally important, because a workout is truly just that, time to work on yourself. It is so important to take the time to provide yourself with that "me" time. To improve and strengthen yourself. To change your mental feeling and outlook. To change your physical body in a way that will make you feel better about you! And it can happen right here in the Ride with Tommy! @crunchgym Crunch Fitness - Sunset. But you have to take the time. And often it is not easy. But life is all about balance. You can give and give of yourself for hours and hours at a time during the day...to your kids...your husband or your wife...your boss...your co-workers...your friends. But unless you take the time to commit to being the best you that you can be, then you won't be able to give the others in your life the best you either! So which do you want to do? The classes are here. @crunchgym is here. @ridewithtommy is here. Make the effort to take the time to create a better you. The best you. Don't you want it? I know others want and deserve the best you that can be. You deserve it! Make it happen! Just do it! See you in class soon! Until then, in good health, tommy

What an awesome class! Thanks to everyone that was there and thanks for staying focused with some distractions at the beginning of class. I had such a great class planned. I wanted to try just a few different things. However, technology didn't have the same plans. The resulting bumps in getting started a couple of minutes late and slow transitions between videos and not being able to play all the videos I had planned, well, I was frustrated and disappointed. But you guys were awesome as always and I soon forgot all about any technical issues and had a great Ride with all of you! Especially when one of you asked for an additional song and almost the entire class agreed! I am almost never one to say no to an extra song! Bonus! And you know what is another bonus? The health and fitness benefits that you gain from staying focused and determined to get the best workout possible. And not just your physical health but your mental health as well. I am not a psychologist nor a psychiatrist (and I haven't even played one or the other on TV! lol!) but I can attest to the mental benefits that intense physical workouts provide. Throughout life, there are times when you need an extra push mentally. Whether it be reqarding family, friends, work or even your workouts, a Ride can help you push the stagnation, the distractions, the disappointments, the worry, or even the blahs out of the forefront of your mind and replace it with euphoria, pride, (good) exhaustion, (new...and better) focus, a positive outlook and a renewed determination to make the best you possible! Just like when you make the best of a less than great situation, you can make the best you possible whenever things work against you. Often, you will be surprised at how great things can turn out. Like I was in class this morning. So again, thank you to all of you! You continue to inspire me and push and challenge me to be a better instructor. So let's do it all again tomorrow! Sexy Spin at 7:00am, Thursday. Hope to see you there! Until then, in good physical and mental health, tommy

It is raining in Los Angeles! A lot! Yay! We definitely need it1 But that makes getting around in LA a little crazy. Thanks so much to everyone who braved the elements this morning and made it to the Peak Performance Ride @crunchgym on Sunset. We had a great Ride! A great workout! A great energy by everyone that was in the room! And we all committed, focused and challenged ourselves while pushing ourselves to the next level. While striving to reach our goals and obtain results. And while having fun! In the Peak Performance Ride, we tend to focus a little bit more on resistance work. Which will push your heart rate up higher. Which will make you burn more calories. Which, can in turn, make you burn more bodyfat! And again, all this while having fun! Did you just read that right? Yes you did! You can do so much good, working intensely, sweating like crazy, reaching the point that you think that you just can't do anymore, and still have fun! You can have a blast getting right on that beat with each and every pedal stroke! Moving your upper body right on the rhythm. Almost dancing while forcing your legs to push harder to get through the resistance. Getting stronger. Making a change in your body. Making a change in your mental perspective. Oh there is so much we can do. So, let's do it! Together. In the Ride with Tommy! Whether the weather calls for rain or sunshine, make plans now to be there and be prepared to make a positive difference in your life. And to have fun! Until then, in good health, tommy
