New Year Resolutions 2007

First of all, I want to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. I am so grateful to be able to do what I do. I have been teaching indoor cycling classes for over 8 years! I love it. I love music. I love working out. I love people. Teaching indoor cycling allows me to bring all of these things together. I get to play dj 6 times a week. I get to have an intense workout and have fun while doing it. And one of the most rewarding things of all, I get to help others. I can't express how blessed I am to have the opportunity to help even one person lose that extra pound they put on over the holidays or that they need to lose for that next big role, to help even one person strengthen their heart muscle and increase their lung capacity, to help even one person choose to not pick up that cigarette. To be able to help others in such a personal and specific way is amazing. I never take it for granted. I say it all of the time, but I mean it every time I say it - I am so grateful for everyone that takes my class. And I am so proud and impressed when I see clients work so hard. And it makes me so happy when I see them having fun while doing it!

As we enter the second month of the new year (already!), I want to encourage all of you who made new year resolutions to stay committed. It is so easy to get discouraged. It is so easy to be disappointed when desired results take longer than we hoped. Let's make a deal. If you try to re-dedicate yourself to your goals, aspirations, resolutions, then I will try even harder to make my classes more beneficial and fun. Deal? I'm up for it if you are!

I've developed a method of preparing for and teaching classes over the past 8 years. I try to make the class challenging. I stress the importance and necessity of proper form. I work to integrate a variety of types of music so that the end result is a class that is intense, easy to follow, challenging and even a little fun! I try to make the class accessible to those that are new to indoor cycling. At the same time, I try to make the class as challenging as possible for experienced riders. This is no easy task, but it is one that I am happy to undertake. The results and rewards are so gratifying.

So, if you've consistently taken my classes, I hope you have benefited from the experience. Even if the realization of your goals is not visible on the outside, I hope that you are proud of yourself for putting your mind to it and at the very least, attempting to obtain your goals. Your goals may be health-oriented. They may be directed at obtaining some type of physical change. You may be after a result that deals more with stress and relaxation. Whatever the case, I promise to help you get one step closer to making that dream become a reality.

Happy New Year! May you realize the best in 2007!

In good health,

Tommy Woelfel

I hope everyone is having an amazing holiday season!

As the new year approaches, I want to let everyone know about my latest endeavor. I have recently accepted the position of General Manager of Exclusive Personal Fitness Solutions, a private training facility in West Hollywood. It is located at the corner of La Cienega Blvd. and Holloway Ave. between Santa Monica and Sunset Blvds. It is just above Barry's Boot Camp and the 7-11 convenience store at the same intersection. It is under new ownership (my partner, Rich Vaughn, and 3 other fitness specialists purchased the gym and took over management on November 30, 2006). A new name will be announced after the first of the year!

It is a very intimate, upscale private training gym. There are no memberships. Everyone that trains there does so with a personal trainer. There are currently about 50 trainers operating there. There are no classes, so, fortunately, it provides no conflict with and I will be able to continue teaching my indoor cycling classes at both Crunch and Meridian!

So, if any of you have any personal training goals for the new year that I may be able to help you with, please don't hesitate to contact me! I won't be doing the training myself, but I will facilitate the connection with a trainer just right for you. I am building upon my 8 years of teaching experience as well as my 2 years of management experience at Todd Tramp's Bodysculpting LA, one of the largest private training gyms in LA (if not the world!) from 1998-2000.

I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love for a living. So in addition to my indoor cycling classes, please look to me for your private training goals as well.

Thank you all as always for your support! Happy holidays!

In good health,

Tommy

Well, I've finally entered the blog atmosphere! My main goal is to help disseminate information about my indoor cycling classes. Providing information visually always helps information be retained longer and more effectively. Therefore, I hope this helps you remember when and where my classes are so that I can see you more often in class!

I'd also like to use this space to tell you a little about my indoor cycling philosophy. I taught my first class in August of 1998. I had been a student of many of the top instructors of that time: Todd Tramp, Andrea Lawent, Debbie Rocker. I loved the workout indoor cycling provided so much that I felt that I had to begin teaching so that I could help others experience the same benefits of such an intense workout in a way that combined all of the best aspects of these instructors. I wanted to take the intense inner-focus and attention to proper form that Debbie Rocker stressed. I wanted to capture all the energy and fun provided by Todd Tramp and Andrea Lawent which is what made them so wildly popular. So I attended the certification course provided by Johnny G (the founder of the Spinning(r) workout), and I was well on my way. It is based upon the ideas gathered from my favorite instructors and through the certification process that I have been able to summarize my approach with these three words:

INTENSE! FORM-FOCUSED! FUN!

Simple. 3 words. I strive to provide a class that is one of the best 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise that you can get. I follow up with a 5 minute cool down which includes a good deal of stretching. I try to provide a variety of music styles so that everyone can enjoy the class. No one is going to like every song in a class, but it is my goal to provide the most motivating and fun music which appeals to the largest number of students. I want my students to leave class proud of how hard they worked and what they accomplished. I also want them to feel surprised at how fast the class passed because they were having so much fun being caught up in the music and the energy provided.

So, I hope that I have been able to convey a little about myself as an indoor cycling instructor with this space. I hope you feel confident with my experience in providing, my commitment to, and my passion for a challenging, safe and fun workout. I hope to see you in class soon!

In good health,

Tommy
