Well today is the last Ride with Tommy! during Women's History Month. And what a Ride to go out with! I recently came across this dance remix cover of Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" by Jessica Williams from the 1999 movie, "Trick". Wow what a flashback. I loved this movie. And the two lead actors worked out at Crunch, JP Pitoc and Christian Campbell (Neve Campbell's brother. She starred in "Party of 5" and the "Scream" movies). So when I recently heard it, I thought I absolutely have to play this as part of one of my Women's History Month track lists! And as I mentioned in last week's class, I was planning on ending the month on a strong note with some strong women artists! Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park" is one of my favorites. And I often tell the story of hearing her perform this very song live at Gay Days at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Singing "someone left my cake out in the rain" in the actual rain! I treasure that memory! And an early hit from one of my favorite female artists, Pink! Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama" also known as the theme from TV's "The Young & The Restless"! And another favorite fierce female, Tina Turner's "Proud Mary". And a megamix of Whitney's hits. And the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin singing "A Deeper Love"!

I've had so much fun putting these track lists together. It was easy with so many amazing female artists from which to choose! Or shoud I say, it was difficult choosing only the number of hits to make up the track list for a class out of so many! I had so much fun Riding with so many of you working so hard to make a positive change. In yourselves. In your bodies. In your minds. In (and out) of class. So thank you to all of the women (and men) that rode with me this month and in the past 25 years! And for the amazing artists to whom we rode! And to women every where who are amazing, fierce, strong, inspirational, motivational, powerful. Just by being yourselves. So thank you! And just because Women's History Month is over, does not mean I will stop playing songs by incredible female artists. Don't worry. I will be playing them all year long!

So I look forward to seeing all of you in class soon!

In good health,

Tommy

So this morning's Ride in honor of Women's History Month started with two mashups that I came across over this past weekend by a dj named Hollywood Tramp. Which is no relation to Todd Tramp, owner of the personal training gym and indoor cycling studio where I took my first spin class and taught my first spin class. On the northeast corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. It is no longer there, but for me, the legacy of that place lives on as strong as ever. Maybe STRONGER! And what better way to start a track list honoring Women's History Month than with two of the biggest names of women in music...Beyonce and Madonna. Not to mention another of the best and most successful voices in music today...Ariana Grande along with one of the greatest songs of all time by the very talented Robyn. Mashing up two of today's most current songs at the top of the pop charts, Beyonce's first foray into country music recently at #1 on the Billboard charts as of just two weeks ago, "Texas Hold 'Em" and Ariana's current #1 "We Can't Be Friends" with classics "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn and "Holiday" by Madonna. I always love a good mashup. And I really love these two!

Then I followed these two up with a couple of videos that I find perfectly fitting for today's track list. "I'm Every Woman" by one of the greatest voices of all time, Whitney Houston. And "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" by one of the most prolific country crossover female artists of all time, Shania Twain.

Completing the list with awesome and amazing female artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Cyndi Lauper, Donna Summer and Barbara Streisand. Wow! Can it get any better?

Thanks to everyone who made it to the Ride this morning and to everyone who has ever made it to a Ride with Tommy! in the past 25 years! I hope to see some of you next week! Until then, in good health!

Continuing our celebration of International Women's Day (last Friday, March 8th) and Women's History Month, today's track list begins with a few videos from some of my favorite and fierce female artists: Pink, Beyonce and Madonna. And last Thursday, I was able to attend Madonna's (Four Decades) The Celebration Tour at the Forum here in Los Angeles. And what a show it was! Madonna did not disappoint! She even brought Kylie Minogue up on stage to sing a couple of songs together! So cool. Bob the Drag Queen was the evening's host/MC and he was amazing. And I believe Madonna brings up a guest judge for the Vogue portion of her show each night. For us that night, it was actress Ali Wong. What a great night! And I was so fortunate to be able to share the evening with my good friend, former spin instructor and current DJ, Jeremy Blacklow! To be able to experience Madonna's incredible show on the eve of International Women's Day was a testament to her ferocity, her willingness to stand up for what she believes is right and for the fight for and defense of everyone's civil rights. This is my first Madonna concert but I was able to see her perform a "mini" concert at World Pride in New York City in 2019. I was also lucky enough to attend the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City in 2019 where Madonna was honored with the Advocate for Change Award presented to her by Anderson Cooper. So thanks to Jeremy for helping make this happen! Thanks to Madonna for being who you are and for all that you do! And thanks to everyone that takes part in the Ride with Tommy! I was so happy to be able to share even just a little bit of Madonna and my other favorite artists with just a little different and fun take on it in the form of a "battle of the sexes" type of track list. But it wasn't anything close to a battle. Just as Madonna's tour is named, it was a celebration. And as I've said many times, there is always something we can celebrate. Today and this month, I am so happy and excited to celebrate women. So let's celebrate and Ride with Tommy! every Tuesday morning at 9:00am at Crunch - West Hollywood! I hope to see you there!
