For the fourth year in a row, we kick off the new year looking back at the previous year...or listening to it...with DJ Earworm's mashup of the top 25 songs of the year 2010 according to Billboard. DJ Earworm was one of the first deejays to lead me into the world of "mashups" and I now wholeheartedly embrace their use in class as a way to make classes more fun and high energy. DJ Earworm has an amazing talent for "blending" different songs - even genres! - together into a seamless soundtrack to inspire and motivate riders to the next level, a higher level, where they are giving more than they thought they were going to, more than they thought they could! That's what I like to see! And I'm including DJ Earworm's amazing video of the United State Of Pop (Don't Stop The Pop) here so you can see it and enjoy it, too!

"Yet another installment in what has become an annual New Year’s tradition. It’s the United State of Pop, which mashes up the Top 25 songs of the year, according to Billboard magazine.
In 2010, pop has gone into serious all-out party mode. In 2009 the music was encouraging us to pick ourselves back up after being knocked down again, and to rock out to some great dance music while you’re at it. This year’s music tells us to keep going now that we’re up and having fun. In fact, the fun seems to be in such overdrive that it borders on recklessness. Usher urges us to ‘dance like it’s the last night of your life”, and Katy Perry wants us to “run away and don’t ever look back”. Even the songs that aren’t about parties have parties in their videos, like this year’s entries from Mike Posner and Lady Antebellum.

I'd also like to highlight one of my new favorite songs of any kind! Yes, it is a mashup, but it is really hard to tell that it is. Yes, it is a ballad, but is an absolutely beautiful cool down. And yes, it comes from a somewhat surprising source...one of the hottest pop stars of the year and a rock band with a former teen hearthrob as the lead singer. I'm talking about DJ Sergio's mashup, "Not Like A Queen" featuring Katy Perry and 30 Second to Mars. The blend of Katy Perry's "Not Like The Movies" and the 30 Second to Mars single "Kings & Queens" is more like a haunting, smooth, soulful, beautiful duet than it is a mashup. And yes, the lead singer of 30 Second to Mars is Jared Leto, formerly the teen hearthrob and Claire Dane's crush in the critically lauded, poorly rated and thusly short-lived TV series, "My So-Called Life" also starring former Crunch member, Wilson Cruz in a ground breaking role. I'd also like to include that for you here:

WOW! I can't begin to describe how excited I am about this morning's class. Though there were a few bumps along the road in the preparation for this class, it all came together and because of all of you, it turned out better than I could have imagined! The turnout was perfect - a sold out class without turning anyone away! The music turned out to be so much fun (thankfully as I stayed up almost all night putting it together!) And the clothing drive resulted in an amount of clothes to be given to Out Of The Closet (operated by the AIDS Health Foundation) which was probably more than 3 times what was given the last time we did this. WOW! I can't thank all of you enough for your support of this morning's Special Holiday Sexy Spin and your continued support of the Ride with Tommy! You all make it so rewarding and worthwhile for me. I am truly blessed to be doing something I enjoy so much that is also good for so many of us. So again I say thank you, Merry Christmas, and happy holidays to you all!

Special Holiday Sexy Spin. Tomorrow. Thursday. 7am. Crunch. Give the Shirt Off Your Back to Charity!
Make plans now to attend the last Special Sexy Spin class of the year (actually the last Sexy Spin of the year!) tomorrow morning, Thursday, December 16th at 7:00am! Special guests, special music, prizes, and all kinds of good stuff! Someone said the other day that this is like Oprah’s Favorite Things. Someone else said that we need to rotate (on the new bikes!) and donate! I love it! However you look at it, you will still be able to get the same intense ride, while having even more fun than usual while having the opportunity to give to a great cause, while walking away with some great swag!
We’ll also be doing something a little different but completely appropriate for the season. We will be highlighting a couple of Crunch members who have overcome great difficulties and are not only surviving but thriving because they have chosen a healthy lifestyle. They are willing to share their stories and in so doing, I hope that we all will be inspired even more to be thankful for the health that we have and to commit even more to our own healthy lifestyles and workout routines!

Now go out and have an amazing Thanksgiving week! If you are traveling, do so safely. If you are planning on eating more than usual, we hope to see you back in class after the holiday!

And thanks to so many people who showed up for both classes, whether you were doing a double (as so many of you were!) or if you were able to just take one of the two classes, it was amazing having you there! And thanks to everyone who took part in the Red Line Ride part of class. I hope everyone was able to see how their heart rates react to the different workouts that we go through during the Ride. Not only did everyone (hopefully!) get an intense workout, but I think everyone learned a little more about heart rate based training and how important it can be as a part of your overall workout program. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me, send me a comment, or catch me after class and ask me in person!

Today marks the 4-year anniversary of the Ride With Tommy! blog or website. I can't believe it has been 4 years already! CAMP CRUNCH: Red Line Ride 6-Week Intensive
If you haven't already, there is still time and spaces left for the next and 3rd session of the CAMP CRUNCH: Red Line Ride 6-Week Intensive. The program begins with the first semi-private class on Tuesday morning, October 12th from 8:15-9:00am! The 6-week program concludes on Saturday, November 20th. This morning's track list was a new one in honor of Bergen's 51st birthday! Happy birthday, Bergen! She requested Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love which kind of set off a rock theme. A friend had introduced me to a new German DJ's mashup site which included some rock mashups which ended up being perfect for today's class. I have to be honest, I was a little nervous as to how it would turn out, but thanks to everyone who worked so hard and appeared to have a great time doing so! And thanks to those who offered the compliments on the class!
I also want to give a special shout out to my friend, Blue Hamilton. I have known Blue for several years and never knew of his dreams to be a singer. Well, last week, he emailed me his first single and I have to say, it is amazingly beautiful! Thanks to Blue for letting me use it as a cool down this morning, and I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors following his dreams!

Extra Special Sexy Spin This Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:00am!
It's that time again where I put together a special class. It's sort of a "Thank you!" for everyone who regularly spins with me, but it is also a way to kind of mix things up and keep it exciting. Once again, the ride will be the same intense ride that you have come to expect. I will still focus on correct form. And I will, as always, play a variety of fun and motivational music.
However, this time and as always in these special classes, there will be special guests riding in class. I will play special music (even more special than usual!) And there will be gift bags for everyone in class. And we will draw bike numbers at the end of class to give away a few special prizes.
And as always, when we have this much fun, I like to bring attention to a worthwhile cause. This time, we will hopefully be raising the awareness of the California AIDS LifeCycle Ride to End AIDS! More specifically, I want to give as much attention and support to Crunch members, Ride with Tommy! regulars, and friends that are taking part in the ride.
