Wow. It has been a long time since I've posted a tracklist from a class that I've taught at Crunch. That I've taught at all! Almost 4 months! I have to say I was nervous going into it this morning. However, there were only a handful of people in class, so social distancing was not a problem. Everyone wore their mask, so that was not a problem, either. The biggest difference for me was dealing with wearing a mask while trying to teach. It was challenging. I have absolutely no problem with wearing it, but it did create a bit of a challenge. At one point, I got pretty winded during class. Now, I'm not so sure that it was the mask or that I've just really gotten out of shape these past 4 months! Either way, class went pretty smoothly, I'm glad I was there this morning, and I look forward to doing it again next week! I hope to see you there!

Ride with Tommy! Tomorrow morning, Wednesday, July 8, 2020, 7:00am, Crunch - Sunset

It's official! I will be teaching tomorrow morning, Wednesday, July 8, 2020, 7:00am at Crunch on Sunset. It's been a minute since I've taught (since Friday the 13th of March! If that wasn't an omen, I don't know what is!) Crunch has been open for a couple of weeks now, and they have been slowly rolling out the group fitness schedule, including the Ride classes. If you are ready to go back to the gym, and many of you may very well not be ready...and that is completely okay! No pressure. But if you are ready to Ride, if you are already back at Crunch or thinking that you are ready to go back now, I hope to see you tomorrow morning.

Crunch is following all health guidelines from local and state governments to ensure the safety of all of us. Signs and information will be posted throughout the club. But here is a brief rundown of those that will affect us in the spin room specifically:

1. Masks and gloves must be worn at all times in the gym, even during vigorous exercise. If you do not have your own gloves, some will be available in the spin room.
2. There are only 44 bikes in the room (we took 11 bikes out). Only every other bike will be used during a class so that we can follow social distancing as much as possible and no one will be riding next to anyone else. Thus, there will only be a maximum of 22 people in a class.
3. Bikes should be wiped down both before and after class.
4. Employees will have their temperature checked before they teach.

Crunch Fitness on Sunset Closing March 16 - 31, 2020 due to Mayor's Proclamation to fight the Coronavirus

Below is the recent announcement of gym closure by Crunch Fitness on Sunset @crunchsunset. I will miss seeing you all, but I look forward to seeing everyone healthy again as soon as possible! I know that this is a difficult time for all of us. Especially for those of us who work in the industry. But also for those that depend on us for the improvement and/or maintenance of both our physical and mental well-being. Stay active even if it is in your own home! Order food from stores and restaurants for delivery to help support those businesses. Only order or buy reasonable amounts of goods. Be aware that others need those same goods, too. If you do feel sick, call your medical provider/urgent care/ER to determine your best method of action. Happy new year to all of you Ride with Tommy! regulars! Thanks so much to those that showed up this morning for the first Ride with Tommy! class of the new year of the new decade and at the new time! I can tell 2020 is going to be a great year! So much to be excited about! So much to look forward to! So many positive changes to make! And I hope you trust me to help you make some of those positive changes! Let's celebrate our health and fitness together!

I have been teaching Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00am for many years now. As well as my Wednesdays at 9:30am. So these are big changes. I hope you commit to making these changes with me, and that I continue to see you in the new year so that we can continue to make positive changes to our bodies and in our minds!

Please make note of these changes. Please share the new class times with everyone you know! Let's fill up these classes and meet our goals in 2020!

Thanks to David for subbing the Peak Performance Ride tomorrow morning, Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 7:00am. I will be traveling back to LA at that time. I'll be back in the saddle the next day, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 9:30am.

If you haven't taken one of David's classes yet, he is one of the newer instructors at Crunch who came to us here from being one of the most popular instructors at Flywheel. He's also a recent transplant from Dallas, Texas (another Texan! Gotta love that!) Give him a try tomorrow morning if you havene't already!

Today, I chose music that is a little different. Even for a Sexy Spin. I took the title of the class and built an even more exaggerated theme around it. I haven't done this since I first started teaching a Sexy Spin on Thursday mornings at 7:00am! I usually mix up classics with more current hits. However, today, I felt like really going for the fun factor a little more than usual. So I chose the most sexy and fun songs to make up this morning's track list. I always say as an instructor, you never know where you find inspiration for putting a track list together. Pink celebrated her birthday a couple of days ago, so I wanted to celebrate it in even a small way by playing one of my new favorites by her, "Walk Me Home". Also, I was so lucky to be able to go see Debby Holiday live last Friday night. So I will almost always JUMP at the chance to play her music in class. (See what I did there? "JUMP at the chance"? And I played a new remix of Van Halen's "Jump", too! LOL!) And this remix of her biggest hit, "Dive", is one of my favorites! I replayed the track list from the celebration of my 21st anniversary of teaching for a couple of reasons. Yesterday, Kelly Clarkson launched her new talk show. And I love her most recent hit, "Broken & Beautiful", written and produced by mega-DJ Marshmello and from the soundtrack to the movie, "Ugly Dolls". And two days ago, Pink celebrated her 40th birthday. I love and appreciate both of these artists so much. And as I always say, there's always a reason to celebrate! I hope to see you in class soon!

Since it is Labor Day, I decided to begin class today with a video of Donna Summer's, "She Works Hard For The Money." Cuz she does. We all do. And we should celebrate that! Here is a formal definition of Labor Day: "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It's origins began in the movement that advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest." Happy Labor Day! Happy anniversary! I celebrated 21 years as an instructor this morning in class by including a few of the songs that I actually played in my first spin class ever as an instructor back on August 2, 1998! But I also mixed it up with a few of my recent remix obsessions to keep it from being all about the past! It has been a while since I played "Stomp" by God's Property featuring Kirk Franklin. There's very little that'll get you up and jumpin' like a good ol' gospel song! And I followed that up with Whitney Houston's new one. Yes, you read that right! Her NEW one! A recently released recording of Stevie Winwood's hit that never made it onto one of her albums. Whitney's estate, run by her sister-in-law, had the uber-hot DJ, Kygo, remix it and then they released it for us all to enjoy. Which I totally have! And I finally got to enjoy it with everyone in class this morning! I also love Kelly Clarkson's "Broken & Beautiful" from the animated film, "Ugly Dolls". It was not a huge hit, but I love it and really enjoy the remix! I also threw in the Purple Medley by Prince along with a couple of iconic dance hits, "Things Just Ain't The Same" by Deborah Cox (iconic in her own right!) and "Coming Back" by DJ Dado. Fun! And such great runs! And we climbed to what is still one of my favorite hills, "It's No Good" by Depeche Mode. And I can never get enough of Janet! And Nsync! And Pink! A bunch of my favorites! All while doing one of my favorite things...teaching spin! 21 years is a long time! I never thought I'd be doing it this long. But I always said, when I stop having fun doing it, then I won't do it anymore. Well, I still LOVE doing it! So I guess I'll be here a little longer. And I hope you will join me in class soon! Ride with Tommy! Just do it. It's good for you! And fun!
