Wow! For about the first time since I've been posting this blog, I took a week off of making any new posts at all...I mean, when I haven't been on official vacation. And I think I'm a little worried. No one said anything at all. Not one word. I haven't posted track lists for the last 2 Saturdays and last Thursday (remember, I usually only post new track lists on Thursdays and Saturdays). Does this mean that I'm doing this for no one other than myself? Hmmm...
Well, part of the reason I took a few days off is that the days leading up to the special Sexy Spin on Thursday, April 9th (which promoted the California AIDS LifeCycle and its riders that spin with me) completely wore me out! I busted my butt putting that class together! For the 3 nights prior to that class, I got 2 hours of sleep each night! I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong! I had a blast getting the gift bags, special prizes, music and guest list together for what I thought was a super fun class! And I hope that it made even just a little bit of difference in supporting a great cause. In addition, I was also working on the preparations for the Camp Crunch: Red Line Ride 6-Week Intensive that was supposed to start the next week! But let's just say that needless to say (is that using that right?), I had to take a nap on Thursday afternoon. And I went to bed early that night! And all of this was on top of my responsibilities as a new dad to twins Austin & Aiden which I can't "shirk" away from...I don't want to! I love being their dad and spending time with them. I just want to be one of those "new age" parents that does it all I guess...or at least attempts to.
Well, I did have a great time with the LifeCycle Sexy Spin. So much so that I thought I would replay the same cd the following Saturday. So I have it listed here. Finally. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much (or even half as much) as I did. You can still support the riders! Just scroll down to the post with the links to their fundraising pages. Even the smallest bit helps!
And don't forget to support the businesses that donated such amazing products to the gift bags and prizes. I was blown away by everyone's willingness to help out. Sexy Spin to promote California AIDS LifeCycle riders tomorrow, Thursday, April 9th!
Tomorrow's Sexy Spin will be a special Ride. We will be honoring and promoting those that are taking part in this year's California AIDS LifeCycle. The economy is tough, but this organization and these amazing individuals still need our help to raise funds for such a worthy cause. In addition to the usual intense class focused on form and set to a variety of fun music, we will have special guests and prizes. Del Shores (writer/director/producer, Sordid Lives: The Series) and Jason Dottley (plays the lead, Ty, in Sordid Lives: The Series) will be in attendance. Jason just completed his first single and we will be debuting it here in Sexy Spin! David Moretti (Here! TV's The Lair) will also be there as will Toni Trucks (Showtime's Barbershop, The CW's All of Us, and the recently completed pilot for FOX's version of Absolutely Fabulous). Prizes have been provided by Sunstyle Tanning, Starbucks, BoHo Restaurant, PowerZone, Skinnywater, Rockstar, HBO, Trader Joe's, Rex-T Clothing, James Franklin Photography, Jess Jordan Massage, and more!

CAMP CRUNCH: Red Line Ride 6-Week Intensive
There are only a few days left to sign up for the first ever CAMP CRUNCH: Red Line Ride 6-Week Intensive which begins next week, April 16th and ends May 23rd!
I am very excited to be teaching this new program. Enrollment is limited to 10-12 people, so it will be a semi-private environment. There will be 2 classes per week with only the enrolled members participating. These semi-private classes will be 8:15-9:00am every Tuesday and Thursday.
There is a cost associated with this program of $299.00. I know that it is tough to undertake additional expenses especially in these difficult economic times, but this program has been in the works for months and, like I mentioned, is the first program of its kind (yes, in the world!) The focus of this program is not necessarily a rapid weight loss plan, but rather it is an educational program that will teach you about heart rate-based training and more. Consider it an investment in your long-term health and well-being! Heart rate-based training is what the professionals use. You will be able to monitor your effort throughout class and your progress over time. Most importantly, you will gain knowledge that will help keep you fit and healthy for years to come!
Included in the price of the camp, is a Suunto heart rate monitor which is compatible with the computer used in Crunch's Red Line Ride classes. We will program each monitor with each participant's individual information. This will allow you to see exactly what you doing and where you are in regards to your own personal fitness goals.
Each participant in Camp Crunch will recieve suggested workouts for the 6-week period as well as private access to blogs, articles and information on the Crunch website. These blogs and articles will deal with a wide range of information including heart-rate-based training, diet, balancing life and exercise, and much more!

A big happy birthday shout out goes to David! He provided me with almost every song this morning to play for the Ride on the day of his birthday. We weren't sure if he was going to be able to make it to class this morning. David is training for the California AIDS LifeCycle ride and went on a training ride last Saturday. However, he had the very unfortunate and isolated incident which involved him crashing face down onto the pavement. He is healing quickly and nicely, therefore, he was able to attend class this morning. I wish David so much luck in raising funds for his amazing efforts in the LifeCycle ride, and I also wish him so much happiness on this his birthday and every day! Happy birthday, David!

Rich and I are taking the boys to see snow for the first time this weekend in Mammoth (which also just happens to be Tom Whitman's Elevation Gay Ski Weekend). We'll get to dress them up in their warmest clothes that are too warm for LA and take lots of pictures.
And to the sheer delight of so many of you, Nick Oram will be subbing my Friday and Saturday classes, both at 9:30am.
I know how so many of you love Nick and his style of teaching (and perhaps his overall "presentation"...in other words, he ain't too bad to look at when you are sweatin' your a$$ off!), so I just want to thank Nick for subbing for me! I know you all will have a great class as well as a great time!

I apologize for the language used in some of the songs this morning. My use of these songs in no way condones or encourages the use of such language, and is no reflection of the thoughts, policies or intentions of the gym or instructor. With that being said, didn't they just rock?!?! I read about Lilly Allen's new album on Billboard.com (which I read every week to try to bring you guys new, different and interesting music!). This song ("F**k You Very Much") is such a deceptive tune. It sounds like a light-hearted, happy-go-lucky, Partridge Family kind of upbeat song, but the lyrics are so very different. Fun! Now I have to give credit to Facebook for "I Just Wanna F**king Dance." My friend (and regular Ride attendee), Christoph, posted a video on Facebook (at which I have created a group entitled Ride with Tommy! Check it out!) yesterday which consisted of a montage of many dance clips from many different movies. It was so well done, and it was set to this song. I just loved the transition from the slow, melodic intro to the pulsing, pounding, fast beat of the rest of the song. What a great way to end the class! So thanks to everyone who worked so hard this morning and for being there in the first place!

Well, the birthday roll continues. Today is Carl's birthday, and I asked him to provide me with some of his favorite spin songs. Though he sheepishly asked me to play Anastacia as if maybe I wouldn't be too familiar with her music or maybe that I might feel that it is too "5 minutes ago." I decided to try the cd on my Sexy Spin clients first. Now, this was a challenge because Andrew loves hard rock-and-roll, and he has always reminded me of the fact that I rarely play his favorite type of music in class! Jason, on the other hand, tends to like music that is a little more "dancey", "anthem-y", with strong vocals by strong women artists (in other words, music that is typically more appreciated by men who are members of the gay community). So, today's track list may appear a little "split personality", a little bit (not country but) "diva-y" AND a little bit rock-and-roll. I will be repeating it tomorrow in Friday's 9:30am class in celebration of their birthdays. Happy birthday, Andrew & Jason!
I didn't know it until I arrived in class today, but it is also Rose's birthday today! Rose has been so consistent with her early morning indoor cycling over the past several years. She should be an example to many of us! I really appreciate her commitment and her support. Happy birthday, Rose!
And of course, we can't forget that this week also included Colin's birthday this past Tuesday!

Okay, I know throughout history, that I have only posted new track lists on Thursdays and Saturdays and maybe holidays. Well, today, I put together a new track list specifically to celebrate Colin's birthday. If you don't know Colin, he's hard to miss. He is always smiling and ready with a laugh, quip, joke, or sarcastic yet light-hearted and well-intentioned comment. He is truly a pleasure to have in class. He has also lost over 50 lbs since he started indoor cycling in addition to his private training. He's lost over 100 lbs altogether! Suunto Comfort Belt for Heart-Rate-Based Training for The Ride 2009
In the New Year, Crunch will be introducing a new heart-rate-based workout called the Red Line Ride. It requires a heart rate monitor to be worn which will allow you to monitor your heart rate during the class on a big screen behind the instructor (don’t worry, it will reflect a nickname, not your real name or bike number!) And at the end of class, you will be able to receive a printout or email of your own personal results of your workout in that class. I have already attended one training session for this new program, and I am very psyched about it! Crunch will be making a limited number of monitor belts available for each class, but if you are serious about committing to a new and more challenging program in the new year that will allow you to monitor your progress over time, then I highly recommend you try this class and even to purchase your own belt. As I’ve mentioned in class, if someone is looking for that perfect gift for you, then you might suggest the Suunto Comfort Belt (digital ANT) that works with the Fitness Solution (group monitor) that we will be using in class. These are the thousands of client families served by APLA, almost all of them living below the poverty line, and this is the only toy drive benefiting these kids. VOTE NO ON PROP 8!
Today is Tuesday, November 4, 2008. It is Election Day. I hope that everyone gets out to vote. And, I hope that everyone votes to prevent adding discrimination to the state constitution. Prop 8 does just that, it writes discrimination into the constitution. Is this what our state leaders envisioned so long ago when writing our constitution? Everyone should have the same rights under the law. Currently, they do. If Prop 8 passes, only certain segments of the population will have certain rights. Others will not have the same rights and will be relegated to a "second class" status. So please, vote NO ON PROP 8 and keep discrimination out of the constitution! Regardless of how you feel about marriage for everyone, if you are a fair-minded person and believe in equality for all, then you can't allow Prop 8 to pass! Prop 8 is unfair! Prop 8 is wrong!

10-year Anniversary Spin - Thursday, October 30, 2008
I can't believe I have been teaching spinning for 10 years! I taught my first class at Todd Tramp's Bodysculpting LA (where Train is now on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose) on August 2, 1998. The top songs of that year were Brandy & Monica's duet, "The Boy Is Mine", Shania Twain's "You're Still The One", and LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live". The top-selling albums were by Celine Dion, Garth Brooks, the Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain, and the Titanic Soundtrack! The top movies of that year were "Saving Private Ryan", "Armegeddon" and "There's Something About Mary". I was coming to terms with who I was. I was struggling with my sexuality, and slowly but surely, I was coming out! At the time, I was General Manager of Todd Tramp's Bodysculpting which was just about the largest private training facility in Los Angeles. I had been studying under Todd Tramp, Andrea Lawent, and Debbie Rocker. I also approached Kendell Hogan about teaching at Crunch which had just opened recently. I was placed on the sub list and have been teaching there ever since. I now teach 6 days a week! I absolutely love it!
This Thursday, the usual Sexy Spin will be expanded (not replaced) to include special guests, prizes and even more excitement than usual! Don't worry, you will still get the same intense, form-focused, fun class that you have become accustomed to. I would never interfere with that. But, everyone in attendance will be leaving with something extra: a gift bag, tickets to Spring Awakening opening this week at the Ahmanson, free tans at Sunstyle Tanning (Official Sponsor of Sexy Spin), and more!
And I am also trying to raise awareness for two very worthy causes:

I usually try not to bring politics into The Ride, but as this is the last Sexy Spin before the election next week, I have to encourage everyone to vote NO ON PROP 8! Prop 8 is an attempt to strip rights away from individuals. It would take away the right for gays to marry. I married my partner, Rich, this summer, and we now have two beautiful twin boys, Austin and Aiden. Prop 8 would take away the legality and rights of my marriage. I want everyone to have the same and equal rights under the law, without discrimination of anyone based on sexual orientation. So please, vote NO ON PROP 8! Guy B is an spin instructor here at Crunch, and he often subs my classes for me when I am out of town. He is an amazing instructor, but also an amazingly talented musical artist and performer! It is a night of performances which will benefit LIFEWORKS which offers mentoring to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth. So please, support this event and the very worthy cause! Labor Day Spin! - 9:30am, Monday, September 1 at Crunch on Sunset
I will be back to my regular schedule tomorrow, Monday, September 1st, Labor Day at 9:30am. I am so excited to be back! Don't get me wrong, the 3 weeks I took off for my (un)official paternity leave was well worth it. I wouldn't have done it any differently. The time that Rich and I spent bonding with our boys was amazing, priceless, time that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. But I have missed all of you and teaching in general.
And I can't thank Guy B, Nick Oram and Jensen Rodney enough for subbing all my classes for me while I was out. Thanks guys! You rock!

The twins have arrived! I am now (un)officially on paternity leave!
Well, the time is finally here. Rich and I are the proud dads of twin boys, Aiden Taylor and Austin Riley Vaughn Woelfel. Aiden arrived at 11:05pm on Saturday, August 9th. Austin was born just after at 11:06pm. Aiden weighed in at 6 pounds, 15.9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Austin weighed 6 pounds, 14.1 ounces and was also 19 inches long. I cannot begin to tell you how awesome, amazing, exciting and rewarding this experience has been!

The Underwear Affair - Uncover The Cure!

2. ATTEND A POOL PARTY AND SUPPORT MARRIAGE EQUALITY!
My friends Clay and Dan are hosting a pool party fundraiser to support the efforts to prevent the Anti-Gay Marriage Bill (Proposition 8) from passing in this fall's California elections. Half of all donations will go to the Equality for All Campaign. The other half will go to the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Young Professionals Council to fund its programs and services.
DJ Michael Hockett will be coming out of retirement to spin his upbeat sounds at the party. So make an effort to attend!
