What a great February! Thank you all for your support (not just in February, but always!) but especially of the Sexy Artist Spins in the month of February. I am so blessed! Not only to have so many dedicated, committed, hard-working, fun and sexy people in class each week, but to also have friends who are so gifted and talented and willing to share their talent with us in a unique, different and special class each week. Many thanks again to Guy B, Debby Holiday, Shane Mack, and Jason & deMarco! A very sexy and talented group! Wow! Within the month, I was not only able to mix some of my favorite songs of theirs into my classes, but I was also able to see most of them live! Guy B performed at his CD release and birthday party; Debby Holiday performed an amazing duet with Levi Kreis at Tom Whitman's Player Sundays at Here Lounge; and I saw Shane Mack perform at Genghis Cohen on Fairfax. And I was also introduced into some new music from Jason & deMarco! A very special thanks to Guy, Debby, Shane and Jason & deMarco! Please take a minute to visit their websites and/or myspace pages. I have most of their links on the right hand column of this page. Check 'em out and support 'em!

And yes, this past Saturday, I did play a few songs from Dreamgirls. And Jennifer Hudson won last night at the Oscars! Hmmm...do you think there is a connection?...coincidence?...hmmm...

In good health,

Tommy

Sexy Artist Spins in the month of February continue this week with the appearance of the amazingly talented duo, Jason & deMarco! I'm so excited to have them in class this week. I originally met them a few years ago while working on The Trevor Project's Cracked Xmas event which raises funds for the only nationwide, 24-hour a day, 7-day a week teen suicide prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth. These guys are amazing individuals all the way around - huge hearts, velvet voices, striking appearances, committed feelings (for each other!...they've been together for more than 5 years!), successful careers (they've already had one hit on the Billboard dance charts!) - what's not sexy about any of that?!?!

We are going to be blessed with their presence as well as their talents this Thursday morning, February 22, 2007, 6:30am at Crunch on Sunset. I hope as many of you as possible can make it to this week's Sexy Artist Spin and take part in what I'm sure will be an amazing experience!

As usual, I'll have a selection of their music mixed in the soundtrack to a class that will be high-energy, intense, safe, challenging and fun! I can't wait! I hope to see you there!

MERIDIAN SPORTS CLUB
(Miracle Mile location)

Tuesdays @ 6:30am

I'm so excited to have the very talented and sexy Shane Mack joining us for this week's Sexy Artist Spin! He certainly exemplifies both the words sexy and artist. I think he is a little bit John Mayer, maybe a little bit James Taylor, but definitely an amazing voice in his own right. And his lyrics are also amazing. I'm going to throw in a few of Shane's songs in class to get our hearts pumping, to get us sweatin', and to get us all hot - yes, I'm still talking about his music! Shane will be in class spinning right along with us, so I hope you can all make it there as well!

Get up early, get your workout out of the way, and feel better about facing the rest of your day. Get an intense cardio workout. Get exposed to an artist you may not now about...yet! And as always, have a little fun while doing it.

Shane will be playing live at Genghis Cohen (at Fairfax and Melrose) at 9pm on Wednesday, February 21st. Don't miss out on this opportunity to support one of our sexy artists! For more information about this performance and all that is going on with Shane, be sure to check out his myspace page by clicking on his picture!

Sexy Artist Spins in February: Debby Holiday

CRUNCH
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays @ 9:30am
Thursdays @ 6:30am (*Sexy Spin!)

MERIDIAN SPORTS CLUB
(Miracle Mile location)

Tuesdays @ 6:30am

Last week's Sexy Artist Spin featuring Guy B was off the hook! Thanks to everyone who made it to class early last Thursday morning. And special thanks to Guy B for being there and sharing his talent and overall sexiness with us!

This week, I am honored to feature the music of Debby Holiday! She is as sexy as they come, and she has a talent that won't quit! Debby has had TWO songs climb all the way to the top ten of the Billboard Dance Charts. I'll be playing both of them: "Dive" (#5) and "Half a Mile Away" (#7)! I'll also be playing another one of my favorites of hers, "Bring It On".

Debby has so much going on for her right now. You can hear her singing the theme to the FX series "Dirt" starring Courtney Cox. She's also singing on John Waite's new single, "Universal Soldier". You may have seen her onstage here in LA at the Zephyr Theatre in "The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife", a play by the gifted writer and director, Del Shores. Soon, I'll have the privilege to be working with her in the movie version of another play by Del Shores, "Southern Baptist Sissies". By all means, go out and see this movie when it hits theatres because I was fortunate enough to star in the stage production, also at the Zephyr Theatre, and it is an important and award-winning work whose message needs to be heard!

So, I hope to see you in class on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at 6:30am at Crunch on Sunset. We can get a great workout in early, enjoy Debby's amazing talent as well as other music that I've chosen to make the class fun and intense, and then have the rest of your day to go out and save the world!

Be sure to check out her website by clicking on the picture below!

Sexy Artist Spins in February: Guy B

CRUNCH
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays @ 9:30am
Thursdays @ 6:30am (*Sexy Spin!)

MERIDIAN SPORTS CLUB
(Miracle Mile location)

Tuesdays @ 6:30am

Many of you have taken my 6:30am indoor cycling class on Thursday mornings at Crunch. Since last summer, this particular class has been labeled "Sexy Spin". I tend to play music that is a little more sexy. I tend to encourage guys to take off their shirts when they get sweaty (I know this is a little sexist, but I don't think I could get away with encouraging women to remove their tops!) The main reason for this is no more than the fact that most of the people that take a 6:30am class do so because it is the only time they can workout due to work or whatever reason. Therefore, I feel that if we are going to be up and working out that early, the least I can do is make class as intense, effective, fun and sexy as possible. Then, we can all go back to our day jobs and get back to saving the world!

Well, as if we weren't having enough fun already, I've added an additional element to Sexy Spins for the month of February. I am blessed to have some friends that are extremely gifted as well as sexy. I thought it would be an amazing experience to add a new twist to class each Thursday morning.

I've invited these huge talents to attend class. I will incorporate a few of their songs in class. The intended result is to spice up class a little more, make it even a little more fun. At the same time, I would hopefully be exposing the talents of these sexy individuals to a new audience.

The first "Sexy Artist Spin" will be Thursday, February 1, 2007. The featured artist will be Guy B. Some of you may know him already. He is also a indoor cycling instructor at Crunch. He has even subbed my classes several times. He is an awesome instructor, and I'm lucky enough to call him a friend. He is a special talent and a special person. I am so excited to share a few of the tracks off of his new album this Thursday. I know you will like him! To learn more about Guy B, visit his website by clicking Guy's picture below.

In good health,

tommy

New Year Resolutions 2007

First of all, I want to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. I am so grateful to be able to do what I do. I have been teaching indoor cycling classes for over 8 years! I love it. I love music. I love working out. I love people. Teaching indoor cycling allows me to bring all of these things together. I get to play dj 6 times a week. I get to have an intense workout and have fun while doing it. And one of the most rewarding things of all, I get to help others. I can't express how blessed I am to have the opportunity to help even one person lose that extra pound they put on over the holidays or that they need to lose for that next big role, to help even one person strengthen their heart muscle and increase their lung capacity, to help even one person choose to not pick up that cigarette. To be able to help others in such a personal and specific way is amazing. I never take it for granted. I say it all of the time, but I mean it every time I say it - I am so grateful for everyone that takes my class. And I am so proud and impressed when I see clients work so hard. And it makes me so happy when I see them having fun while doing it!

As we enter the second month of the new year (already!), I want to encourage all of you who made new year resolutions to stay committed. It is so easy to get discouraged. It is so easy to be disappointed when desired results take longer than we hoped. Let's make a deal. If you try to re-dedicate yourself to your goals, aspirations, resolutions, then I will try even harder to make my classes more beneficial and fun. Deal? I'm up for it if you are!

I've developed a method of preparing for and teaching classes over the past 8 years. I try to make the class challenging. I stress the importance and necessity of proper form. I work to integrate a variety of types of music so that the end result is a class that is intense, easy to follow, challenging and even a little fun! I try to make the class accessible to those that are new to indoor cycling. At the same time, I try to make the class as challenging as possible for experienced riders. This is no easy task, but it is one that I am happy to undertake. The results and rewards are so gratifying.

So, if you've consistently taken my classes, I hope you have benefited from the experience. Even if the realization of your goals is not visible on the outside, I hope that you are proud of yourself for putting your mind to it and at the very least, attempting to obtain your goals. Your goals may be health-oriented. They may be directed at obtaining some type of physical change. You may be after a result that deals more with stress and relaxation. Whatever the case, I promise to help you get one step closer to making that dream become a reality.

Happy New Year! May you realize the best in 2007!

In good health,

Tommy Woelfel

I hope everyone is having an amazing holiday season!

As the new year approaches, I want to let everyone know about my latest endeavor. I have recently accepted the position of General Manager of Exclusive Personal Fitness Solutions, a private training facility in West Hollywood. It is located at the corner of La Cienega Blvd. and Holloway Ave. between Santa Monica and Sunset Blvds. It is just above Barry's Boot Camp and the 7-11 convenience store at the same intersection. It is under new ownership (my partner, Rich Vaughn, and 3 other fitness specialists purchased the gym and took over management on November 30, 2006). A new name will be announced after the first of the year!

It is a very intimate, upscale private training gym. There are no memberships. Everyone that trains there does so with a personal trainer. There are currently about 50 trainers operating there. There are no classes, so, fortunately, it provides no conflict with and I will be able to continue teaching my indoor cycling classes at both Crunch and Meridian!

So, if any of you have any personal training goals for the new year that I may be able to help you with, please don't hesitate to contact me! I won't be doing the training myself, but I will facilitate the connection with a trainer just right for you. I am building upon my 8 years of teaching experience as well as my 2 years of management experience at Todd Tramp's Bodysculpting LA, one of the largest private training gyms in LA (if not the world!) from 1998-2000.

I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love for a living. So in addition to my indoor cycling classes, please look to me for your private training goals as well.

Thank you all as always for your support! Happy holidays!

In good health,

Tommy

Well, I've finally entered the blog atmosphere! My main goal is to help disseminate information about my indoor cycling classes. Providing information visually always helps information be retained longer and more effectively. Therefore, I hope this helps you remember when and where my classes are so that I can see you more often in class!

I'd also like to use this space to tell you a little about my indoor cycling philosophy. I taught my first class in August of 1998. I had been a student of many of the top instructors of that time: Todd Tramp, Andrea Lawent, Debbie Rocker. I loved the workout indoor cycling provided so much that I felt that I had to begin teaching so that I could help others experience the same benefits of such an intense workout in a way that combined all of the best aspects of these instructors. I wanted to take the intense inner-focus and attention to proper form that Debbie Rocker stressed. I wanted to capture all the energy and fun provided by Todd Tramp and Andrea Lawent which is what made them so wildly popular. So I attended the certification course provided by Johnny G (the founder of the Spinning(r) workout), and I was well on my way. It is based upon the ideas gathered from my favorite instructors and through the certification process that I have been able to summarize my approach with these three words:

INTENSE! FORM-FOCUSED! FUN!

Simple. 3 words. I strive to provide a class that is one of the best 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise that you can get. I follow up with a 5 minute cool down which includes a good deal of stretching. I try to provide a variety of music styles so that everyone can enjoy the class. No one is going to like every song in a class, but it is my goal to provide the most motivating and fun music which appeals to the largest number of students. I want my students to leave class proud of how hard they worked and what they accomplished. I also want them to feel surprised at how fast the class passed because they were having so much fun being caught up in the music and the energy provided.

So, I hope that I have been able to convey a little about myself as an indoor cycling instructor with this space. I hope you feel confident with my experience in providing, my commitment to, and my passion for a challenging, safe and fun workout. I hope to see you in class soon!

In good health,

Tommy
