Appendicitis

You never think it is going to happen to you. Especially when you are active and try your best to lead a healthy lifestyle. Well, this past Sunday, I had what I thought was an intense stomach flu that wouldn't go away. First of all, I rarely get sick. So when this "stomach flu" didn't go away after 10 hours and the pain only increased, I began to think it was something else. I looked up appendicitis on WebMD.com and, sure enough, I had all the symptoms. I thought that I needed to make sure, so if the symptoms persisted by the next morning, I would go to the hospital. Well, that is exactly what happened. I went to the emergency room at Cedars Sinai on Monday at 5:30am. Fortunately, my appendix hadn't burst (that can be very dangerous). My appendix was inflamed and after several tests and a cat scan, the doctor determined that I was definitely in need of an appendectomy. I went into surgery at 3:30 that afternoon. I returned home Tuesday morning. I spent the rest of the day resting and recuperating.

Unfortunately, all of this means that I have been forced to stay off of the bike for probably almost 2 weeks! I am currently thinking I will try to get back in class in the middle of next week, even though I may teach off of the bike for a few days.

I want to thank Nick Oram, Guy Baruch and Rich Vaughn for covering my classes during my absence. Thanks to Nick for stepping up the the plate for me on such short notice Monday morning! And thanks to Guy for subbing for me this morning! Rich Vaughn will again be taking over the reigns of Sexy Spin tomorrow morning, and Nick will return on Friday morning at 9:30am. Here is my sub schedule as of now:

Monday, March 12, 9:30am - Nick Oram
Wednesday, March 14, 9:30am - Guy Baruch
Thursday, March 15, 6:30am - Rich Vaughn
Friday, March 16, 9:30am - Nick Oram
Saturday, March 17, 9:30am - Nick Oram
Monday, March 19, 9:30am - Nick Oram

Check back for further schedule updates! Try not to miss a workout during my absence! These guys are some of the best instructors out there, so I know they will give you the intense, fun workout that you guys are used to!

Until I'm back...

In good health,

Tommy
