As most of you that showed up this morning know, I was unable to teach this morning's Red Line Ride at 9:30. I had a family emergency at 9:00 that prevented me from doing so. Everything is fine now. Thanks to everyone that asked, texted, emailed and messaged me.

And I have to give a great big thanks to Ryan for subbing at the very last minute (as she has done for me before!) Fortunately for everyone that showed up for class, Ryan is an amazing instructor and everyone got a great class. So for that, I am relieved and grateful!

For the fourth year in a row, we kick off the new year looking back at the previous year...or listening to it...with DJ Earworm's mashup of the top 25 songs of the year 2010 according to Billboard. DJ Earworm was one of the first deejays to lead me into the world of "mashups" and I now wholeheartedly embrace their use in class as a way to make classes more fun and high energy. DJ Earworm has an amazing talent for "blending" different songs - even genres! - together into a seamless soundtrack to inspire and motivate riders to the next level, a higher level, where they are giving more than they thought they were going to, more than they thought they could! That's what I like to see! And I'm including DJ Earworm's amazing video of the United State Of Pop (Don't Stop The Pop) here so you can see it and enjoy it, too!

"Yet another installment in what has become an annual New Year’s tradition. It’s the United State of Pop, which mashes up the Top 25 songs of the year, according to Billboard magazine.

In 2010, pop has gone into serious all-out party mode. In 2009 the music was encouraging us to pick ourselves back up after being knocked down again, and to rock out to some great dance music while you’re at it. This year’s music tells us to keep going now that we’re up and having fun. In fact, the fun seems to be in such overdrive that it borders on recklessness. I'd also like to highlight one of my new favorite songs of any kind! Yes, it is a mashup, but it is really hard to tell that it is. Yes, it is a ballad, but is an absolutely beautiful cool down. And yes, it comes from a somewhat surprising source...one of the hottest pop stars of the year and a rock band with a former teen hearthrob as the lead singer. I'm talking about DJ Sergio's mashup, "Not Like A Queen" featuring Katy Perry and 30 Second to Mars. The blend of Katy Perry's "Not Like The Movies" and the 30 Second to Mars single "Kings & Queens" is more like a haunting, smooth, soulful, beautiful duet than it is a mashup. And yes, the lead singer of 30 Second to Mars is Jared Leto, formerly the teen hearthrob and Claire Dane's crush in the critically lauded, poorly rated and thusly short-lived TV series, "My So-Called Life" also starring former Crunch member, Wilson Cruz in a ground breaking role. WOW! I can't begin to describe how excited I am about this morning's class. Though there were a few bumps along the road in the preparation for this class, it all came together and because of all of you, it turned out better than I could have imagined! The turnout was perfect - a sold out class without turning anyone away! The music turned out to be so much fun (thankfully as I stayed up almost all night putting it together!) And the clothing drive resulted in an amount of clothes to be given to Out Of The Closet (operated by the AIDS Health Foundation) which was probably more than 3 times what was given the last time we did this. WOW! I can't thank all of you enough for your support of this morning's Special Holiday Sexy Spin and your continued support of the Ride with Tommy! You all make it so rewarding and worthwhile for me. I am truly blessed to be doing something I enjoy so much that is also good for so many of us. So again I say thank you, Merry Christmas, and happy holidays to you all!

Special Holiday Sexy Spin. Tomorrow. Thursday. 7am. Crunch. Give the Shirt Off Your Back to Charity!

Make plans now to attend the last Special Sexy Spin class of the year (actually the last Sexy Spin of the year!) tomorrow morning, Thursday, December 16th at 7:00am! Special guests, special music, prizes, and all kinds of good stuff! Someone said the other day that this is like Oprah’s Favorite Things. Someone else said that we need to rotate (on the new bikes!) and donate! I love it! However you look at it, you will still be able to get the same intense ride, while having even more fun than usual while having the opportunity to give to a great cause, while walking away with some great swag!

We’ll also be doing something a little different but completely appropriate for the season. We will be highlighting a couple of Crunch members who have overcome great difficulties and are not only surviving but thriving because they have chosen a healthy lifestyle. They are willing to share their stories and in so doing, I hope that we all will be inspired even more to be thankful for the health that we have and to commit even more to our own healthy lifestyles and workout routines!

And once again, we will experience the return of the “Give the Shirt Off Your Back (because it’s Sexy Spin after all!)” mini clothes drive! Bring some of your clothes that are nice but that you no longer use and share them with someone that needs them, especially at this time of year. And I’m thinking that a certain special sexy someone will be there to collect them!
